On Thursday 23 April 2020 the US President Donald Trump promoted on national TV at his daily coronavirus briefing at the White House that the idea of chlorine dioxide – a powerful bleach used in industrial processes such as textile manufacturing – could be used as a treatment for Covid-19.
In the plot of the 1933 movie The Invisible Man (dir. James Whale), Dr. Griffin accidentally bleaches himself invisible while doing experiments with an obscure vaccination called “monocane”.
