Failed Emptiness (2024, 66 min) will be the opening film of the first Finnmark Flicker festival in Kirkenes, Norway.

Finnmark Flicker – Experimental cinema and moving images week take place on 19-24 May 2025. The remote northern town of Kirkenes will become an entertaining, educational and nurturing communication environment. The screenings will take place at the main cinema hall of Kirkenes – Aurora Kino, as well as unconventional spaces in Sør-Varanger: the library, the old shops, the former hospital and the repairing workshops.
Epäonnistunut tyhjyys (“Failed Emptiness”, 2024, 66 min) is screening at Tampere Film Festival on Saturday 8 March 2025 at 21:00. Original version in Finnish, with subtitles in English. Screening followed by Q&A. Finnkino Cine Atlas 4.
The short film Optical Sound (dir. Mika Taanila, 2006) is screening at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival on February 1-8, 2025. The film is part of combined program dedicated to sound in film Buzz – Le bruit qui court.
Mika Taanila’s site-specific multi-screen installation A Physical Ring (2001) is part of group exhibition “Rock, Paper, Scissors” at Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. Music: Ø (Mika Vainio). The show features dozens of works from The Finnish National Gallery collections from the 1970s to the present. Curators: Saara Hacklin, Satu Oksanen and Saara Karhunen. Dates: 14.2.2025-18.1.2026.
Mika Taanila’s video installation My Silence (2013) and photograms from the series Black and White Movies (2013) are part of the group show “Arjen abstraktioita – Kudelmia kokoelmista” at Hämeenlinnan taidemuseo from October 10, 2024 until April 13, 2025. Curator: Tanja Pääskynen.
