CLEANING TAPES (2015)

January 1, 1970

Three tape loops spin in reel-to-reel tape recorders. The piece is inspired by the idea of weekly housecleaning as mechanical music. These field recordings of an everyday chore have been reworked into a musical fantasy.

The short film Patent Nr. 314805 (2020, dir. Mika Taanila) is screening at the 37th Kassel Dokfest 17-22 November 2020.

According to the German federal government’s decision for a second lockdown in November, the 37th Kassel Dokfest will be held online. Here  FESTIVAL TRAILER , the festival catalog can be downloaded as a PDF HERE.

Around 190 films will available as DokfestStreams from November 18 to 27. They will be accessible via festival homepage as a direct link in the program or via VoD platform. Details about access and tickets can be found here on DokfestOnline.

PATENT NR. 314805 and OPTICAL SOUND at VAFT, Turku ( )

The  short films Patent Nr. 314805 (2020) and Optical Sound (2005) by Mika Taanila are screening at VAFT – Video Art Festival Turku on Saturday 7 November 2020. The combined selection of shorts “Five Years of VAFT” features works by Salla Tykkä, Heidi Tikka, Artur Jesus Inkerö, Hertta Kiiski and Reija Meriläinen. Kino Diana at 14:00h.

CONSTRUCTORS at The Biennial of the Moving Image (BIM) in Buenos Aires, Argentina ( )

The Biennial of the Moving Image (BIM) in Buenos Aires is not taking place in its physical form this autumn due to Covid-19. For the current online edition BIM commissioned short video pieces from artists who had participated in previous editions of the event. Mika Taanila’s contribution is a miniature video work entitled Rakentajat (“Constructors”).
