PATENT NR. 314805 at Nordisk Panorama, Malmö, Sweden ( )

The short film Patent Nr. 314805 (2020, 2 min, dir. Mika Taanila, produced by Testifilmi) is nominated for the Best Nordic Short Film at the 30th Nordisk Panorama festival in Malmö, Sweden. The competition features 22 films from all the Nordic countries.

This year Nordisk Panorama will be a hybrid festival mixing online screenings with select in-person events in Malmö. Audiences in all five Nordic countries will have access to free streaming of the films as well as talks and masterclasses during the festival 17 – 27 September 2020.

MANNERLAATTA at Kiasma Theatre, Helsinki ( )

Mannerlaatta (2015, 74 min, produced by Testifilmi) is screening at Kiasma Theatre on Saturday 22 August, 2020 at 13:00h. The screening is part of the events related to Mika Vainio’s solo exhibition 50 Hz in Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. Vainio scored the electronic soundtrack for this cameraless feature film.  NOTE! Mannerlaatta is the original language version with Finnish on-screen texts by Harry Salmenniemi.  The English version of the film is called Tectonic Plate.

The short film Patent Nr. 314805 (dir. Mika Taanila, 2020, 2 min, produced by Testifilmi)is screening on Sunday 2 August 2020 at EXiS, Experimental Film & Video Festival in Seoul, South Korea. The screening is entitled EX-Choice 12 and includes sonic abstraction shorts by László Moholy-Nagy, Guy Sherwin, Mary Ellen Bute and many others. The venue is Indie Space and the time is 19:00h.

Patent Nr. 314805 is a composition based on Finnish engineer Eric Tigerstedt’s experiments in solving the problem of sound-on-film already before the First World War. All images and sounds in this short film are produced from the surviving test materials originally created in 1914.
