The music video Kiila: Verbranntes Land by Mika Taanila is part of the video art program “As Seen on Television – Kuin kuvaruudussa” at Taidekoti Kirpilä from Wednesday 6 May, 2020 onwards. The program features five Finnish pieces that reflect with domestic television and living-room culture of the late 1980s.

The documentary film Futuro – A New Stance for Tomorrow (1998, 28 min, dir. Mika Taanila, script: Mika Taanila & Marko Home, prod. Kinotar) is one of the 13 films on architecture screening at Arkitekturfilm 2020 event in Oslo. The screening of Futuro takes place on Sunday 11 October 2020 at 13:00 at ROM – Room for Art and Architecture.

Pakasteet plays two live shows on this tour, on 26 November in Moscow with Alexei Borisov and on 27 November in St. Petersburg with Ilia Belarukov.

Tectonic Plate (dir. Mika Taanila, 2016, b/w 74 mins) is screening at Innis Town Hall in Toronto on Saturday 23 November 2019 at 19:00h. Free entry. The event is co-presented by Ad Hoc and Archive/Counter-Archive.
“Ad Hoc is a screening collective with no fixed address. This is a mobile screening series, which aims to rethink what an experience of cinema can be, including the spaces in which it can be exhibited. We seek to reposition historical landmarks and buried treasures within the on-going tradition of experimental and other non-commercial modes of filmmaking, drawing on work from Toronto, throughout Canada, and internationally. Underdox Festival in Munich is screening five films by Mika Taanila in their 14th edition. Optical Sound screens as part of the festival opening event on Thursday 10 October, Tectonic Plate screens on Friday the 11th at Filmmmuseum and on Saturday 12 October three short films A Physical Ring, I Like This Silence and Delay of Game are accompanied by eight other short films by selected by Taanila in a combined program entitled “Unknown Gestures”.
Friday and Saturday screenings are with introduction and Q&A with the filmmaker. The festival runs from 10 to 16 October 2019.

The five-part programme includes both classical and contemporary works by filmmakers and video artists from Northern Europe. Video and 16 mm film screenings will take place at Aurora Cinema (Nevsky prospect, 60) on September 15-19. Curator Martin Grennberger presents the programme.
Programme guests: film directors Inger Lise Hansen (Norway), Tinne Zenner (Denmark), Mika Taanila (Finland) and Thorbjorg Jonsdottir (Iceland).
Musiikkivyöry was Mika Taanila’s moniker for his solo music works during 1980-1987. In 2009 Ektro Records released a cd compilation of Musiikkivyöry’s 1980-81 home cassette recordings.
