Underdox Festival in Munich is screening five films by Mika Taanila in their 14th edition. Optical Sound screens as part of the festival opening event on Thursday 10 October, Tectonic Plate screens on Friday the 11th at Filmmmuseum and on Saturday 12 October three short films A Physical Ring, I Like This Silence and Delay of Game are accompanied by eight other short films by selected by Taanila in a combined program entitled “Unknown Gestures”.
Friday and Saturday screenings are with introduction and Q&A with the filmmaker. The festival runs from 10 to 16 October 2019.

The five-part programme includes both classical and contemporary works by filmmakers and video artists from Northern Europe. Video and 16 mm film screenings will take place at Aurora Cinema (Nevsky prospect, 60) on September 15-19. Curator Martin Grennberger presents the programme.
Programme guests: film directors Inger Lise Hansen (Norway), Tinne Zenner (Denmark), Mika Taanila (Finland) and Thorbjorg Jonsdottir (Iceland).


Musiikkivyöry was Mika Taanila’s moniker for his solo music works during 1980-1987. In 2009 Ektro Records released a cd compilation of Musiikkivyöry’s 1980-81 home cassette recordings.


Musiikkivyöry performs live at “Pölyä” record launch event at Korjaamo in Helsinki on Friday 10 May 2019. Other live acts are Vessel Umpio, Vihan Muna, Hande Virkki (Lola Ego), Tommi Keränen and Olimpia Slendid.

Mika Taanila’s short collage film The World (2017) is showing at Espoo Ciné on Saturday 11 May, in a combined screening back to back with The Man Who Fell to Earth (dir. Nicolas Roeg 1976), the feature film which it is based on. Followed by Q&A.

Mika Taanila is one of the guests for the 28th Suomalaisen elokuvan festivaali (“The Festival of Finnish Cinema”) in Turku. The festival runs four programs of Taanila’s films, making up fourteen titles in total. The selection contains two feature films, Mannerlaatta (2016) and Atomin Paluu (2015, co-directed by Jussi Eerola) and twelve short films 1998-2017.
