The short film The World is screening the International Competition of The 36th Uppsala Short Film Festival in 23–29 October 2017.
Mika Taanila’s solo show entitled “Cleaning Tapes” is on show at Sandviken Konsthallen in Sweden from 4 November until 3 December 2017.
The exhibition features installation works Cleaning Tapes (2015), My Silence (2013), The Earth Who Fell to Man (2017), Verbranntes Land (2002) and five photograms from the series Black and White Movies (2013).
Tectonic Plate and Branches are screening at Nordisk Panorama Festival’s Special Program in Malmö on Sunday 24 September at 11:30 at Cinema Panora.
Masterclass with Mika Taanila takes place after that 14:00-16:00h at Inkonst, Blackbox.

The short film The World (2017) will be screened at EXIS – Experimental Video & Film Festival, Seoul. The annual festival for artist’s cinema, experimental film and video will be held from July 13–20 in South Korea.
Premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam and previously screened e.g. at CPH:DOX, The World screens on Wednesday, July 19 at 16:30 in the Korean Film Archive.
The images of The World consist of The Man Who Fell to Earth (dir. Nicolas Roeg 1976) evacuated and flipped. In abandoned landscapes, animals, furniture and empty vehicles are left awaiting for disaster. ”We must have died alone, a long long time ago.” (D.B.)
Mannerlaatta – the original Finnish language version of Tectonic Plate – is screening together with short films A Physical Ring (dir. Taanila 2002) and Phantasma (dir. Saara Ekström 2016) at Korjaamo’s annual Stage Festival on Friday 28 August 2017 at 19h. The screening is a tribute to Mika Vainio, as he scored the soundtracks for all the three films.
Mika Taanila’s collage film The World has been selected to the Nordisk Panorama Competition program for the Best Nordic Short Film in 2017. Competition features 28 short films produced in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland in 2016–2017 covering a wide range of cinematic genres.
