THE ZONE OF TOTAL ECLIPSE, A PHYSICAL RING, VERBRANNTES LAND and KATOAMINEN at Fracto in Berlin, Germany ( )

Four short films by Mika Taanila are screening at Fracto Experimental Film Encounter in Berlin on 21–24 October 2021.

The dual-projection 16 mm film performance The Zone of Total Eclipse (2006),  analogue music video Verbranntes Land (2000) and the sort film A Physical Ring (2002, 35 mm) are part of “Scorched Ground – Appropriation and Found Footage in Finnish Artists’ Moving Images”, curated by Kari Yli-Annala. The program includes works by Miia Rinne, Mika Taanila, Seppo Renvall, Sami van Ingen, Saara Ekström, Elina Oikari, Juha van Ingen and Jarkko Räsänen.

The super 8 film Katomaninen (“Vanishing”, 2020) is part of Fracto’s “Selection #4: Transfiguration”.

The short film Patent Nr. 314805 (dir. Mika Taanila, 2020, testifilmi #6) is screening at IndieLisboa festival.

The section Director’s Cut features new films that plunge into the memory of cinema as its main inspiration and films that rework the cinematographic visual heritage.

MANNERLAATTA at SINFF x SLUT in Savonlinna, Finland ( )

The original Finnish language version of Mika Taanila’s film Mannerlaatta (2015, 74 min) is screening at Savonlinna International Nature Film Festival on Thursday 19 August 2021.

The event is co-organized by the film festival and Savonlinnan Uusi taidemuseo (SLUT) takes place at Kulttuurikellari at 19h. Free entrance.

FUTURO – A NEW STANCE FOR TOMORROW at Maison de l’Architecture de Genève in Switzerland ( )

The short film Futuro – A New Stance for Tomorrow (dir. Mika Taanila, 1998, 28 min) is part of the exhibition “Flexibilité” at The Museum of Architecture (Maison de l’Architecture MA) in Geneva, Switzerland from 22 September until 3 October 2021.

“Flexibilité” is curated by Simon Lamunière. Participating artists: Davide-Christelle Sanvee, A.Luna (Adiff) Ecocapsule, N55, Z-Triton, Mika Taanila, PAO Conférences de Michel Agier, Fiona Meadows, Saskia Cousin, Carla Juaçaba, Aigrs Lauzis and Holz&Gonzalez. The group exhibition is part of a larger project called Open House.

FAILED EMPTINESS. TIME at Moscow International Experimental Film Festival ( )

The short film Failed Emptiness. Time (2021, 14 min) is selected for the International Competition Selection at the 6th MIEFF in Moscow, Russia. The festival runs from August 11 to 16, 2021.

International Competition screenings take place in the cinema of Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow.

Directed by Mika Taanila, script by Harry Salmenniemi, music by Éliane Radigue, produced for Testifilmi by Mika Taanila & Jussi Eerola.
