BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova in Turku ( )

Five works from the series Black and White Movies (2013) by Mika Taanila are featured in the Niemistö Collection exhibition “Heart Open to Art” at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova, Museum of Archaeology and Contemporary Art in Turku, Finland.

The exhibition presents a wide selection of works The Niemistö Collection – a private, constantly accumulating collection of contemporary art, deposited in the Hämeenlinna Art Museum. The exhibition is open from 9 June until 26 September 2021.

FAILED EMPTINESS. TIME (2021)

Synopsis:

Suddenly there is an enormous amount of time. At first everything is possible. Anything might happen. Gradually the possible becomes impossible.

CLEANING TAPES (2015)

January 1, 1970

Three tape loops spin in reel-to-reel tape recorders. The piece is inspired by the idea of weekly housecleaning as mechanical music. These field recordings of an everyday chore have been reworked into a musical fantasy.
