Solo show “The End” at STUK, Leuven, Belgium

Mika Taanila’s solo show entitled “The End” is on show at STUK in Leuven, Belgium from 17 October until 16 December 2018. The exhibition consists of works depicting dystopian future. The multi-channel video installation The Most Electrified Town in Finland (2012) shows the construction of the ill-fated nuclear power plant Olkiluoto 3 in Eurajoki, Finland. The scale model of the same power plant called is a ready-made piece of marzipan art, entitled Date of Expiry.

In the single-channel video installation The Earth Who Fell to Man (2017) abandoned landscapes, animals, furniture and empty vehicles are left awaiting for disaster, accompanied by three cut-out works based on the novel The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis.
