Six films by Mika Taanila are screening at Zwei Tage Strom – Festival für elektronische Musik in Zurich between April 18-20, 2024.

Cinema  performance I Might Be Stuck (2022, 30 min) is showing back-to-back with Future Is Not What It Used To Be (2002, 52 min) as the opening event of the festival on Thursday April 18th.

Camera-less feature Tectonic Plate (2016, 74 min) screens on Friday April 19th.

Shorts films Optical Sound, RoboCup99 and Futuro – A News Stance  for Tomorrow show as a combined program on Saturday April 20th.

All screenings take place at Filmpodium Zurich.

MONICA IN THE SOUTH SEAS (2023)

Synopsis

July 1975. Monica Flaherty, daughter of Robert and Francis Flaherty, cinéma vérité pioneer Richard Leacock and Sarah Hudson – Ricky’s student at MIT –travel to Samoa, to the island of Savai ́i. Monica’s aim is to create ”an authentic” sound version of the silent feature film Moana (1926), directed by her parents in her childhood paradise. Being alien to Samoan culture, Monica, Sarah and Ricky are soon pulled in a complex dynamics of gifts, exchange and honoring.

TECTONIC PLATE and A PHYSICAL RING at Fundação de Serralves, Porto ( )

The films Tectonic Plate (2016, 74 min) and A Physical Ring (2002, 4 min) are screening at Fundação de Serralves in Porto as part of an event dedicated to Mika Vainio, who composed music for both of these films.

Tectonic Plate screens on Saturday, November 18 at 16:00h at Auditório do Museu.

A Physical Ring is part of short film program screening on Sunday, November 19 at 16:30h.

The event features Mika Vainio Listening Room and performances by Ilpo Väisänen, CM von Hausswolff & Joachim Nordwall and Charlemagne Palestine.
